Bruins 1, Sharks 0: Carl Soderberg scored with 7:35 remaining in the third period and Tuukka Rask made 26 saves as Boston ended its three-game road losing streak.

Loui Eriksson and Ryan Spooner each recorded an assist for the Bruins, who outscored the Sharks 3-1 in sweeping the two-game season series.

Antti Niemi turned aside 21 shots for the Sharks, who failed to earn a point at home for the first time in 13 games (11-1-1).

With shots at a premium and both goaltenders playing at a high level, it appeared the game would be scoreless before being decided in a shootout. Soderberg spoiled that possibility by netting his sixth goal of the season.

Eriksson unleashed a shot from the inner edge of the right faceoff circle that was blocked by a defender. The puck went right to Soderberg, who tapped it into an open net from the left side of the crease.

It proved to be all the support needed by Rask, who stopped eight shots in the final session en route to 21st career shutout and league-leading fifth of the season. The netminder was superb after allowing eight goals in just over four periods in his previous two games.

The Sharks outshot the Bruins 12-9 in the first period, but each team registered one while Soderberg spent two minutes in the penalty box for boarding. Shots were more scarce in the second, with the Bruins owning a 7-6 edge.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Eriksson was back in Boston's lineup after missing 15 games with his second concussion of the season. Bruins LW Shawn Thornton also returned from a 15-game absence, his being a suspension for an attack on Pittsburgh's Brooks Orpik on Dec. 7. ... Rask became the first Boston netminder to post a shutout in San Jose since Robbie Tallas on Oct. 18, 1998. ... The regulation loss was just the second at home for the Sharks this season.
