Predators 3, Stars 1: Patric Hornqvist and David Legwand scored power-play goals 28 seconds apart in the first period to lift host Nashville past Dallas.

Paul Gaustad scored for the second straight game and captain Shea Weber contributed a pair of assists as the Predators beat the Stars for the fifth time in the last six meetings. Carter Hutton made 33 saves to win his second consecutive start.

Erik Cole scored the lone goal for Dallas, which dropped its second straight following a six-game points streak. Kari Lehtonen turned aside 27 shots in absorbing his third loss in a row (0-2-1) while falling to 1-4-3 in his last eight starts.

Cole put the Stars on top with only 1:53 left in the opening period, skating from behind the net and lifting a backhander past a surprised Hutton. The lead lasted less than a minute when Legwand patiently waited to slide a pass to Hornqvist in the slot and he ripped it past Lehtonen on a 5-on-3.

Legwand put Nashville ahead to stay 28 seconds later, pouncing on a long rebound in the right circle and sweeping it into an open net at 19:30. Gaustad made it a two-goal cushion when he accepted a crossing pass from Colin Wilson, pulled Lehtonen out and tucked the puck behind him for a 3-1 edge at 9:14 of the second.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hornqvist's goal snapped an 0-for-16 drought on the power play spanning the previous six games for Nashville. ... Legwand also had an assist for his second straight two-point outing, giving him a team-high 24. ...
