Canadiens 3, Devils 2: Alex Galchenyuk snapped a tie at 9:34 of the third period as host Montreal extended its point streak to seven games (6-0-1) in the opener of a home-and-home series.

Rene Bourque recorded a goal and an assist and Max Pacioretty also scored for the Canadiens, who defeated the Devils in regulation at home for the first time since March 11, 2008. David Desharnais notched a pair of assists and Carey Price made 28 saves as Montreal improved to 6-1-2 in its last nine home games.

Steve Bernier and former Canadien Michael Ryder tallied for New Jersey, which had its modest two-game winning streak halted. Martin Brodeur turned aside 14 shots for the Devils, who host the Canadiens on Wednesday.

New Jersey opened the scoring with 8:47 remaining in the first period as Bernier deflected defenseman Anton Volchenkov's shot from the left point past Price. Bourque forged a tie at 8:49 of the second, beating Brodeur to the short side from the right faceoff circle, and Pacioretty cashed in on a power-play opportunity exactly eight minutes later as he converted a cross-slot feed from blue-liner Andrei Markov for a 2-1 edge.

Ryder knotted the contest at 4:42 of the third with a blast from the top of the right circle that beat Price high to the glove side for his first goal in 12 games. But Montreal moved back in front less than five minutes later, when Galchenyuk knocked in his seventh goal from the doorstep.

GAME NOTEBOOK: New Jersey C Adam Henrique, who notched an assist, suffered a lower-body injury in the second period and did not play in the third. ... Bernier has scored in two straight contests following a 19-game drought. ... Price has won each of his last six decisions. ... Devils D Andy Greene had his five-game point streak come to an end.
