Bruins 4, Hurricanes 1: Carl Soderberg and Reilly Smith each collected a goal and an assist and Tuukka Rask turned aside 23 shots as visiting Boston posted its fifth win in six contests.

Defenseman Johnny Boychuk scored for the first time in 62 contests for the Bruins, who snapped a three-game road losing skid. Milan Lucic added an empty-net tally and an assist while Loui Eriksson set up a goal to extend his point streak to six games.

Cam Ward finished with 26 saves after being activated from injured reserve following a 10-game absence with an unspecified lower-body ailment. Tuomo Ruutu scored with five seconds remaining in the first period for the Hurricanes, who suffered their second straight loss.

Soderberg set up Boston's first goal at 2:31 of the first period after feeding Smith in the slot with a short diagonal pass from along the goal line. The Swede doubled the advantage nearly eight minutes later after winning an offensive zone faceoff before skating toward the net to deflect defenseman Dennis Seidenberg's wrist shot from the point.

Ruutu trimmed the deficit late in the first period after captain Eric Staal's centering feed caromed off the Finn's stick before skidding inside the left post. Rask didn't let his countryman - or any other Hurricane - beat him again and Boychuk provided insurance midway into the third by scoring from the outer edge of the right circle for his first goal since Jan. 19.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Carolina LW Jeff Skinner missed his 11th consecutive game with an upper-body injury and RW Alexander Semin sat out with the same issue. ... After killing off all four of the Hurricanes' power plays - including a two-man advantage - Boston has killed off 32 consecutive penalties. ... Eriksson has collected two goals and five assists during his point streak.
