Flames 5, Capitals 2: Mike Cammalleri scored two goals and set up another as host Calgary cruised past Washington.

Defenseman Kris Russell recorded a goal and an assist while Jiri Hudler and Curtis Glencross also scored for the Flames, who returned home following a 1-4-0 road trip. Blue-liner Dennis Wideman notched two assists and Karri Ramo made 27 saves.

Jason Chimera and Aaron Volpatti scored while Michal Neuvirth made 17 saves in relief for the Capitals, who had their three-game winning streak snapped. Braden Holtby allowed three goals on 14 shots before being replaced.

Russell opened the scoring 64 seconds into the game and Hudler doubled the lead at 7:24 by burying a rebound from the doorstep. Chimera halved the deficit with 7:58 remaining in the first period, but Cammalleri deflected Wideman's shot from the right point past Holtby 48 seconds later to make it 3-1.

Volpatti got Washington back within a goal by knocking in a rebound from the slot at 7:45 of the second. Cammalleri restored the two-tally advantage midway through the third and Glencross scored from the right hash marks with 5:32 remaining to seal the win.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Calgary was without RW Lee Stempniak and captain Mark Giordano due to lower-body injuries. Stempniak has recorded four goals and nine points in 10 games, while Giordano - who missed his third straight contest - also has nine points in eight games. ... Flames rookie C Sean Monahan notched an assist to halt his brief two-game point drought. ... The Capitals fell to 2-1-0 on their five-game road trip.
