Avalanche 4, Sabres 2: Matt Duchene, Ryan O'Reilly and captain Gabriel Landeskog each recorded a goal and an assist to help Colorado bounce back from its first loss of the season with a victory at Buffalo.

Duchene tallied his team-leading sixth goal and Paul Stastny scored his first of the season for the Avalanche, who won their first six games before suffering a 4-2 loss at home to Detroit on Thursday. Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 28 saves for his second victory of the season.

Cody Hodgson and Marcus Foligno scored for Buffalo, which lost for the ninth time in 10 games. Ryan Miller stopped 22 shots in suffering his sixth defeat in seven starts.

Colorado dominated from the opening faceoff, outshooting Buffalo 14-3 in the first period and while building a 2-0 lead behind goals from O'Reilly and Landeskog. Duchene added a power-play tally 56 seconds into the middle period, deflecting a shot by O'Reilly past Miller.

Buffalo showed a little more life after that, with Hodgson scoring on a slap shot 5:31 into the second. Stastny's goal three minutes later gave Colorado a 4-1 lead, but Foligno scored 65 seconds into the third to get Buffalo within two.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Sabres didn't take a shot in the first 16 minutes but ended up outshooting the Avalanche 30-26. … Colorado RW Steve Downie was given a 10-minute misconduct following a fight with Buffalo D Mike Weber at 6:48 of the third period. … Former Avalanche coach Joe Sacco is an assistant with Buffalo.
