Blackhawks 3, Islanders 2: Veteran Michal Handzus scored the go-ahead goal in the second period and Nikolai Khabibulin turned aside 17 shots as host Chicago handed New York its first loss in regulation.

Rookie Joakim Nordstrom scored his first NHL goal midway through the opening period and captain Jonathan Toews tallied for the second straight contest. Defenseman Duncan Keith notched a pair of assists for the Blackhawks, who avoided their first three-game winless streak since Feb. 23-26, 2012.

Josh Bailey and Kyle Okposo scored 49 seconds apart late in the first period. Kevin Poulin made his first start and finished with 25 saves for the Islanders, who fell to 10-2-5 in their last 17 regular-season contests.

With the game tied at 2-2, Keith unleashed a slap shot that was denied by Poulin before Handzus alertly cleaned up the rolling rebound at 6:45 of the second period.

Chicago jumped out to a two-goal lead as Toews astutely played the carom off the boards before beating Poulin with 3:55 left in the first period. Bailey trimmed the deficit just over three minutes later with his 60th career goal before Okposo scored with five seconds left, converting captain John Tavares' centering feed.
