Kings 2, Blues 1: Dustin Penner snapped a tie with two-tenths of a second remaining in the second period and host Los Angeles withstood a late charge by fourth-seeded St. Louis to wrap up their Western Conference first-round series in six games.

Defenseman Drew Doughty also scored and Jonathan Quick made 21 saves for the fifth-seeded Kings, who have won 10 straight home games dating back to late March. The reigning Stanley Cup champions will face either second-seeded Anaheim or sixth-seeded San Jose in the second round.

With time winding down in the middle session, Penner carried the puck over the blue line and unleashed a shot that deflected off the stick of Blues defenseman Roman Polak and sailed past Brian Elliott to break a 1-1 deadlock. Quick stopped all eight shots he faced in the third and Patrik Berglund's deflection hit the crossbar late in the period as the Kings eliminated the Blues for the second consecutive year.

Chris Porter tallied and Elliott stopped 14 shots for the Blues, who dropped four straight after winning the first two games of the series.

Doughty gave Los Angeles the lead with 7:23 remaining in the first period as he beat Elliott with a shot from the left faceoff circle. Porter drew St. Louis even at 4:39 of the second, when he deflected Polak's blast from the right point past Quick.
