Avalanche 1, Blues 0 (OT):
David Jones scored at 4:43 of overtime and Semyon Varlamov outdueled Jaroslav Halak as Colorado edged visiting St. Louis.

Jones unleashed a wrist shot from the top of the left faceoff circle that glanced off the stick of St. Louis defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk and moved just enough to find the top right corner of the net for the lone goal of the contest. Blue-liner Matt Hunwick carried the puck into the zone before dropping it back to Jones for the only assist.

Varlamov made 33 saves en route to his 10th career shutout and second this season. The Russian netminder had allowed at least three goals in each of his previous five starts.

Halak, who made 19 saves, was making his first start since Feb. 1 after recovering from a groin injury. T.J. Oshie put six shots on goal for the Blues, who have dropped back-to-back games while totaling one goal.

St. Louis had a strong chance at the end of regulation, but captain David Backes could not get enough on a shot from the doorstep, and Varlamov kicked the puck away with his left pad.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Avalanche RW Milan Hejduk suffered a torso injury in the first period and did not return. … Things got tense late in the third period after St. Louis rookie Vladimir Tarasenko took a high hit from Colorado C Mark Olver. Olver was not whistled for a penalty, but Tarasenko left the game. … Halak dropped to 3-0-1.
