Devils 3, Canadiens 2: Patrik Elias and Steve Sullivan scored power-play goals and Martin Brodeur turned aside 19 shots as host New Jersey handed Montreal its fifth loss in six games.

Jacob Josefson netted his first tally in nearly 13 months and defenseman Marek Zidlicky notched a pair of assists for the Devils, who were eliminated from postseason contention on Sunday by the Atlantic Division-rival New York Rangers.

Max Pacioretty scored a power-play goal to extend his point streak to five games. Lars Eller also tallied and Carey Price finished with 21 saves for the Canadiens, who remained tied in points with Boston atop the Northeast Division. The Bruins, who also have a game in hand, dropped a 5-2 decision to Philadelphia on Tuesday.

With his team on the power play, Elias scored his third goal in as many games and matched David Clarkson for the team lead with his 14th at 13:55 of the first period. Zubrus scored over 3 1/2 minutes later after converting Dainius Zubrus' feed from behind the net before Sullivan gave New Jersey a 3-0 advantage with a tip-in at 4:36 of the second.

Pacioretty trimmed the deficit nearly two minutes later after his shot caromed off the skate of Devils defenseman Adam Larsson. Eller scored with 21 seconds left in the period, but Brodeur kept his hometown team at bay the rest of the way to improve to 44-18-1 with five ties in his career against the Canadiens.
