Avalanche 1, Predators 0 (OT): Rookie defenseman Tyson Barrie scored 50 seconds into overtime and Semyon Varlamov made 34 saves as host Colorado escaped with its second win in 10 games.

Barrie pinched from the point and tapped a rebound past Pekka Rinne to snap a four-game losing skid for the Avalanche. Varlamov stopped 12 shots in the first period, 15 in the second and seven in the third for his 11th career shutout.

Rinne finished with 23 saves for Nashville, which went 0-for-6 on the power play. Mike Fisher, who is riding an eight-game point streak for the Predators, did not play after blocking a shot with his hand in Thursday’s 7-4 loss to Phoenix.

Colorado had allowed at least three goals in each of its last nine games - and yielded power-play tallies in five of them. Varlamov stood tall during a 33-second 5-on-3 disadvantage in the first period and a double-minor high sticking penalty by Avalanche defenseman Ryan O’Byrne late in the second, stopping 12 shots while short-handed.

Barrie, who scored his lone other goal on Feb. 18, fired a career-high four shots in 17:18 time on ice.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Avalanche RW Milan Hejduk left the game with a shoulder injury and did not return. … Nashville LW Richard Clune and Colorado LW Cody McLeod fought 83 seconds into the contest. … Colorado will try for the season sweep against the Predators when it visits Nashville on Tuesday.
