Capitals 4, Lightning 3: Eric Fehr scored two goals, Mathieu Perreault recorded his first career three-assist performance and visiting Washington held off a late rally to extend Tampa Bay’s winless streak to six.

Fehr registered his second of the night on a rocket from the top of the right faceoff circle 2:22 into the third period and Jay Beagle added his first of the season on a rebound 5:07 later for a 4-1 lead. Troy Brouwer also had a goal and Braden Holtby made 27 saves as the Capitals won their third straight.

Nate Thompson scored on a breakaway with 3:13 left to pull the Lightning within 4-3. Martin St. Louis and Teddy Purcell also scored for Tampa Bay while Mathieu Garon made 35 saves in losing his third straight.

Brouwer gave Washington the lead 2:40 into the game on the power play with a one-timer from the slot after a nifty pass from Perreault. St. Louis tied it less than six minutes later, stuffing in a rebound at the right post for his first goal in 11 games.

The Capitals took a 2-1 lead 5:09 into the second period, when Joel Ward beat Lightning defenseman Matt Carle to the puck behind the net and sent it in front, where it caromed off Perreault to Fehr for a tap-in. Holtby stopped all 12 shots in the second, including one by Steven Stamkos from point-blank range midway through the session.
