Peter Mueller scored in the first period and Tomas Fleischmann added a short-handed tally in the third for the Panthers. Jose Theodore made 28 saves for Florida, which has gone five games without a point since an opening-night victory over Carolina.

Stamkos opened the scoring after knocking home his own rebound on the power play at 11:09 of the first period, but Mueller stuffed in the equalizer 15 seconds later. Defenseman Victor Hedman’s nifty pass up the middle connected with Conacher in stride and the rookie gave Tampa Bay a 2-1 lead with 7:11 left in the opening session.

Pyatt batted in Tyrell’s cross-ice feed past Theodore 3:18 into the second period and Tyrell was alone in front to knock in Pyatt’s pass from behind the goal line for a 4-1 lead at 15:39. The Lightning, who also got two assists from Benoit Pouliot, outscored their opponent for the first time in the middle frame this season.
