Avalanche 3, Kings 1: Captain Gabriel Landeskog and David Jones scored 1:35 apart early in the third period as Colorado came from behind to win its home opener against Los Angeles.

Defenseman Jan Hejda's shot caromed off the end boards directly to Landeskog, who fired the puck into the net from the right side exactly one minute into the third to forge a 1-1 tie. Jones then hammered a shot past goaltender Jonathan Quick from the slot during a power play 95 seconds later to give the Avalanche the lead for good.

Free-agent acquisition PA Parenteau added some breathing room at 8:16 with his first goal for the Avalanche as he converted a nifty backhand pass from defenseman Erik Johnson. Semyon Varlamov made 28 saves as Colorado extended its winning streak against Los Angeles to five games.

Kyle Clifford, who recorded seven hits in a 5-2 loss to Chicago on Saturday, popped in a rebound to give the Kings a 1-0 lead with 4:08 remaining in the first period. Los Angeles was unable to add to the advantage as it went 0-for-6 on the power play.

The Kings, who got back top-line center Anze Kopitar from a knee injury, received a 28-save performance from Quick. Colorado failed to cash in during a 5-on-3 advantage late in the second period that lasted 1:29 as Los Angeles maintained its one-goal lead.
