BLACKHAWKS 2, COYOTES 1 (OT): Captain Jonathan Toews scored at 2:44 of overtime as visiting Chicago staved off elimination by edging Phoenix in Game 5 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series.

Toews ripped a high-rising shot from the right faceoff circle that beat Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith to send the series back to Chicago for Game 6.

Defenseman Nick Leddy also scored and goaltender Corey Crawford made 18 saves for the Blackhawks, who had lost both games in Chicago to fall into a 3-1 series hole.

Toews provided another dramatic finish in the second postseason series to ever have the first five games go to overtime.

It was the second goal of the series for Toews, who missed the final 22 games of the regular season with a concussion.

Gilbert Brule scored the lone goal for Phoenix, which was thwarted in its bid to wrap up its first postseason series since 1987, when the franchise was based in Winnipeg.

The Coyotes got the first goal when Brule finished off a 3-on-1 break with a blistering slapper from the right faceoff circle at 2:46 of the second period.

Smith drew an assist on the goal, Brule's first career point in four postseason games.

Chicago finally leveled it as the midway point of the third period approached, with Leddy teeing a shot up from the point that knuckled past Smith at the 9:15 mark. It was Leddy's first career postseason tally and his first goal since Feb. 16.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said Raffi Torres' 25-game suspension - announced earlier Saturday - had no bearing on the team's preparation for Game 5. "Everybody's known it’s been coming for a few days. It’s not like it snuck up on us," he said. ... Marian Hossa did not accompany the team to Phoenix and Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said there's been "no change" to his progress. ... Coyotes LW Lauri Korpikoski returned to the lineup after a two-game absence but C Martin Hanzal missed his third straight game. ... Blackhawks winger Viktor Stalberg had a rough Game 5, picking up four minor penalties.
