JETS 4, HURRICANES 3 (OT): Kyle Wellwood tied the game late in the third period and captain Andrew Ladd scored 16 seconds into overtime as Winnipeg edged Carolina to end a three-game losing streak.

Nik Antropov and Jim Slater also tallied, defenseman Zach Bogosian collected three assists and Chris Mason made 30 saves for the Jets, who moved six points behind eighth-place Washington with five games remaining.

Wellwood buried a loose puck from the left of the crease during a power play with 4:47 left in the third to forge a 3-3 tie. Moments after Carolina defenseman Justin Faulk committed a turnover in his own zone, Ladd received a pass from the right point by Bogosian, turned around and fired the puck past Cam Ward from the doorstep for the win.

Antropov returned from a five-game absence due to a lower-body injury to give Winnipeg a 1-0 lead just 2:23 into the contest, extending his goal-scoring streak to four matches.

Defenseman Derek Joslin tied the game midway through the first period and captain Eric Staal scored while shorthanded with 3:14 remaining to put Carolina ahead. The goal was his 250th in 638 career games, making Staal the fastest to reach the plateau in franchise history.

Brandon Sutter made it 3-1 less than four minutes into the second with his second tally in 12 games. But Slater scored his career high-tying 11th goal midway through the period to begin Winnipeg's comeback.

Ward stopped 31 shots for the Hurricanes, who have lost three of four.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Staal's goal was his fifth in six games. ... Slater also scored 11 times in 2009-10. ... Wellwood's tally was his 17th, one shy of his career high set in 2008-09 while with Vancouver. ... Carolina has earned at least one point in 10 of its last 11 home games (6-1-4).
