OILERS 6, BLUE JACKETS 3: Ryan Jones had a goal and two assists and six players scored as visiting Edmonton extended its points streak to seven games (5-0-2).

Chris VandeVelde, Ladislav Smid, Ben Eager, Sam Gagner and Eric Belanger also had goals to help the Oilers snap a five-game losing streak in Columbus.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Ryan Whitney added two assists each as Edmonton scored four unanswered goals in an eight-minute span of the second period to send the Blue Jackets to their league-high 44th defeat.

Devan Dubnyk turned aside 29 shots to win his third straight start and improve to 5-0-1 in his last six.

Mark Letestu scored for the second straight game, captain Rick Nash converted a penalty shot and Derick Brassard tallied for the Blue Jackets, who lost for the sixth time in eight games.

VandeVelde's first career tally at 11:40 of the second ignited the four-goal outburst and Smid put the Oilers ahead to stay less than three minutes later.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mason allowed at least four goals for the third time in five starts and was yanked after the second period in favor of Allen York. ... Edmonton also scored five goals in a period in a 6-3 home win over the Blue Jackets in early December. ... The Oilers had not won in Columbus since Nov. 18, 2008. ... Nash needs one point to reach 50 for the eighth consecutive season.
