Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 26 shots for his first shutout of the season and Derek Smith's first NHL goal was the game's only offense as the Calgary Flames blanked the visiting Nashville Predators 1-0 on Tuesday.

Kiprusoff outdueled Nashville's Pekka Rinne for his 41st career shutout, and third against the Predators. Calgary has now won two straight following a three-game losing skid, while Nashville has dropped five of six.

Smith struck with 1:10 left in the opening period, redirecting a T.J. Brodie pass inside the right post. It's the second straight game a Flames skater has recorded his first NHL goal; Brodie did so in Sunday's 5-2 win over Minnesota.

The teams played a scoreless second frame that was low on quality chances, with the clubs combining for just 13 shots on goal. The Predators had the best chance of the period, but Kiprusoff slid across his crease to deny Nashville forward David Legwand at the end of a 3-on-2 break.

Kiprusoff remained sharp in the third period, making a series of saves during a late Predators power play to protect the one-goal lead.

The Flames lost defenseman Mark Giordano to a lower-body injury in the second period. He did not return and is considered day-to-day.
