Ben Scrivens earned his first NHL victory in style, turning aside 38 shots as the Toronto Maple Leafs cruised to a 4-1 road victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night.

With James Reimer (concussion) still not ready and Jonas Gustavsson getting the night off, Scrivens earned the call and was sensational throughout as the Maple Leafs prevailed despite being outshot 39-18 on the night.

Clarke MacArthur scored twice while John-Michael Liles and Joey Crabb also had goals for Toronto, which earned its ninth win of the year. The Leafs didn't pick up win No. 9 last season until Dec. 4.

Ryan Johansen had the lone goal for the Blue Jackets, who fell to 2-10-1 on the year.

After Crabb and MacArthur staked the Maple Leafs to a 2-0 first period lead, Liles' first goal in a Toronto uniform extended the advantage just 50 seconds into the second period. Following extended pressure in the Columbus zone, Liles skated in alone from the left point and wristed a shot that beat Columbus netminder Steve Mason just past his left arm.

MacArthur ended Mason's night with a wicked slapshot from the top of the left circle. Mason, who surrendered four goals on just 11 shots, was booed lustily following the fourth goal and left the ice to cheers.
