Captain Andrew Ladd scored to snap a tie with 66 seconds remaining in the third period as the Winnipeg Jets rebounded after squandering a four-goal lead to rally to a wild 9-8 triumph over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday in the opener of their season-long seven-game road trip.
After Danny Briere, rookie Matt Read and James van Riemsdyk scored in a 1:51 span in the third period to cap a string of five unanswered goals by the Flyers, Alex Burmistrov and defenseman Mark Stuart scored in a 61-second span to give Winnipeg the lead.
Ladd answered James van Riemsdyk's tally to become the ninth member of the Jets to score after accepting Blake Wheeler's centering feed and beating Ilya Bryzgalov for the game's 17th goal. The offensive outburst was stunning for Winnipeg, which mustered just one goal in four of its previous eight games.
The nine goals tied a franchise record for the Jets, who also netted nine against the Carolina Hurricanes when the franchise was based in Atlanta.
The 17 total tallies matched a Philadelphia mark for combined goals in a game.
Jim Slater and Kyle Wellwood netted their respective team-leading fourth goals of the campaign and Nik Antropov tallied for the second straight game. With the victory, Winnipeg was victorious for the first time in five contests (1-3-1) away from Manitoba this season.
Briere and van Riemsdyk netted a pair of goals, Claude Giroux secured his team-leading sixth goal on a 5-on-3 advantage and defenseman Kimmo Timonen notched four assists for Philadelphia, which has dropped four of its last five games.
