Ilya Kovalchuk and captain Zach Parise scored in the shootout and Johan Hedberg turned aside 29 shots as the New Jersey Devils rallied for a 3-2 road victory over the Nashville Predators on Saturday.

Kovalchuk also scored on a 5-on-3 power play just one minute into the third period and David Clarkson leveled the contest nearly seven minutes later for New Jersey, which posted its third straight win.

In the extra session, Kovalchuk lifted a shot past Pekka Rinne and Parise used a pair of fakes before beating the Finnish netminder. Needing to score to extend the shootout, Matt Halischuk hit the post.

Hedberg stopped Sergei Kostitsyn on a penalty shot in the first period. He was playing in place of future Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur, who suffered a shoulder injury in the first period of Thursday's 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.

Colin Wilson netted his second goal in as many games, Jerred Smithson scored 91 seconds later and Rinne turned aside 39 shots as Nashville lost its second straight at home.

Nashville jumped out early as Wilson redirected Kostitsyn's bid in the slot and Jordin Tootoo alertly found Smithson at the back door, who tapped the puck into the open net.
