Brady Tkachuk scored twice, Drake Batherson had a goal and two assists, Claude Giroux had a goal and an assist, and Anton Forsberg made 33 saves for the Senators, who have won two in a row following a three-game losing streak.
Artemi Panarin had a goal and an assist, K'Andre Miller also scored and Igor Shesterkin made 30 saves for the Rangers, who had won three in a row and six of seven.
The Senators took a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the game.
Tkachuk was behind the net when he sent the puck along the wall to Giroux at the right point. Giroux passed the puck to Artem Zub on his left, and his one-timer was tipped into the net by Tkachuk.
Ottawa made it 2-0 at 18:34 of the first.
Jacob Bernard-Docker took a shot that hit New York forward Jonny Brodzinski and deflected wide of the net. Giroux retrieved the puck behind the cage and attempted a wraparound. Shesterkin made the initial stop, but Giroux scored on the follow-up.
New York was on a power play when Panarin scored his 16th goal of the season 39 seconds into the second period, hitting the net with a wrist shot from just inside the blue line to cut the lead to 2-1.
A turnover in the neutral zone by the Rangers sparked a two-on-one rush, and Tarasenko finished it off for his first goal in 14 games and a 3-1 lead at 5:13 of the second.
New York scored 22 seconds later when a rebound came out to the slot, and Miller was there to swipe it into the net to make it 3-2.
Shesterkin made a pad save on another shot by Tarasenko off the rush, but Batherson scored on the rebound to extend the lead to 4-2 at 7:18 of the second.
Tkachuk beat the Rangers to another puck off the end boards and tucked it into the near side of the net for his 13th goal of the season, stretching the lead to 5-2 at 17:43 of the second.
The Senators killed a 5-on-3 power play that lasted 1:25 beginning at 4:03 of the third period.
Tarasenko scored into an empty net to make it 6-2 with 2:50 left.
