Mike Hoffman slapped home the game-winner at 3:26 of overtime to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 victory over the slumping Dallas Stars on Friday night at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa.

Hoffman one-timed a crossing pass from Matt Duchene from the faceoff circle to the left of goalie Ben Bishop and past the right shoulder of Bishop for his 22nd goal of the season. Marian Gaborik and Duchene also had goals for the Senators, who won their third straight game. Craig Anderson stopped 23 shots to pick up his 21st win in goal this season.

Tyler Seguin scored his career-high 38th goal of the season and Tyler Pitlick also scored for Dallas, which lost its fourth straight game and for the sixth time in seven contests.

Ben Bishop, playing his first game since March 5 because of a knee injury, finished with 22 saves to go along with a fair share of luck as the Senators hit the post four times in the first 26 minutes, including three times during a power play late in the first period when Erik Karlsson, who finished with two assists, and Hoffman both clanged shots off the crossbar and Gaborik hit the post with another. Jean-Gabriel Pageau also bounced a shot off the post early in the second period.

Dallas, coming off a 6-5 shootout loss at Toronto on Wednesday, dominated the first period, outshooting Ottawa 9-1 to start the game and 9-6 for the period. Seguin, coming in off a three-point game in the loss to the Maple Leafs, gave the Stars a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal, snapping a shot past Anderson's blocker off a Jamie Benn pass from behind the net.

Ottawa tied it early in the third period on a one-timer by Gaborik from the right circle off a crossing pass from Ryan Dzingel, converting the second half of a double minor by Pitlick for inadvertently high-sticking Ben Harpur during a mid-ice check.

Duchene gave the Senators a 2-1 lead when he flipped a shot over Bishop's left shoulder from the side of the net with 3:10 left, but Pitlick tied it just 82 seconds later with a spinning rebound shot in the slot to send the contest into overtime.
