Jeff Skinner netted a pair of power-play goals while Alexander Semin and Andrej Nestrasil also scored for the Hurricanes, who won for the first time in four meetings with the team they defeated in the 2006 Stanley Cup final. Captain Eric Staal collected four assists, Victor Rask added two and Cam Ward made 16 saves.

Nugent-Hopkins recorded his second career hat trick and added an assist while Jordan Eberle scored a goal and set up two others for Edmonton, which fell to 8-17-9 on the road. Richard Bachman stopped 28 shots in his first start since Feb. 14.

The Hurricanes trailed 3-0 when Semin scored a highlight-reel goal 9:22 into the second, sliding the puck between Bachman’s pads from his stomach after he was taken down in the slot by Rob Klinkhammer. Lindholm tipped in his first goal with seven minutes remaining in the period and Skinner scored on a two-man advantage 2:23 later before tally less than five minutes after Nestrasil early in the third.

Lindholm added his second tally 31 seconds after Skinner's, wristing a shot from a sharp angle after a smart feed from Rask. Nugent-Hopkins fired a wrist shot past Ward 10:19 into the first period and extended Edmonton’s lead to 3-0 with a power-play goal 7:59 into the second before capping the hat trick by capitalizing on Carolina defenseman Ron Hainsey's turnover 9:31 into the third, while Lindholm scored an empty-netter to complete his hat trick.
