Canadiens 4, Lightning 1: Rene Bourque scored a pair of goals as visiting Montreal took a 2-0 lead over Tampa Bay in their Eastern Conference first-round series.

David Desharnais tallied on the power play and Brendan Gallagher added a third-period goal for the Canadiens, who host Game 3 of the best-of-seven series on Sunday. Defenseman P.K. Subban collected two assists and Carey Price turned aside 26 shots while coming within 1:59 of his fourth career postseason shutout.

Teddy Purcell scored the only goal once the outcome already was decided for the Lightning, which has allowed four tallies in each of the first two games after limiting the Canadiens to four in four regular-season matchups. Anders Lindback allowed three goals on 23 shots before giving way to Kristers Gudlevskis (two saves) for the final 8:14.

Montreal's struggling power play, which failed to convert in the previous nine games, finally broke through 2 1/2 minutes into the second period as Desharnais redirected Subban's slap pass past Lindback. The Canadiens doubled the lead eight minutes later, when Bourque split two defensemen, narrowly avoided Lindback's poke-check attempt and pushed the puck inside the right post.

Price, who allowed four goals on 16 shots in regulation in the Game 1 overtime victory, preserved the shutout with 4 1/2 minutes left in the second, denying Cedric Paquette's rebound attempt from the doorstep. Gallagher then made it 3-0 at 11:46 of the third, intercepting a pass in the neutral zone and beating Lindback short side to end the netminder's night, and Bourque scored on a wraparound with 5:21 remaining to seal it.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Bourque had scored three goals in his previous 11 career postseason games. ... Desharnais' goal ended an 0-for-27 drought on the power play and was the Canadiens' first tally with the man advantage in 19 chances against Tampa Bay this season. ... Lightning rookie LW Ondrej Palat, who led the team in scoring during the regular season, missed the contest with an upper-body injury and was replaced by D Andrej Sustr. ... Montreal LW Max Pacioretty picked up an assist on the opening tally to register his first point in six career postseason games.
