Rangers 4, Jets 2: Carl Hagelin recorded his first career hat trick and Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 30 shots to match Mike Richter with a franchise-best 301st career victory as visiting New York doubled up Winnipeg.

Chris Kreider also tallied and defenseman Kevin Klein notched a pair of assists for the Rangers, who moved past idle Columbus into sole possession of second place in the Metropolitan Division.

Captain Andrew Ladd scored in his 600th NHL game and converted defenseman Dustin Byfuglien also tallied for the Jets, who have dropped six straight (0-3-3) for the first time in two years - when they were known as the Atlanta Thrashers. Former Ranger Al Montoya stopped 13 shots in relief of Ondrej Pavelec (six saves), who suffered a lower-body injury in the first period.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the waning moments of the second period, Martin St. Louis chased down a loose puck before circling the net and backhanding a brilliant feed under Montoya's stick into the slot. Hagelin backhanded the puck over Montoya's glove and into the net with 6.7 seconds left. The Swede completed his hat trick after accepting a feed from Brad Richards before beating Montoya between the pads.

After Hagelin deflected Klein's shot from the point to open the scoring 75 seconds into the contest, Byfuglien swatted his own rebound past Lundqvist 78 ticks later. Ladd tallied from the left circle at 3:26 before Kreider answered with a shot from nearly the identical spot eight minutes later to forge a 2-2 tie.

GAME NOTEBOOK: In addition to his offensive showing, Hagelin also laid out on the ice and blocked a shot by Winnipeg D Jacob Trouba to prevent a potential goal late in the third period. ... New York killed off all four short-handed opportunities and is 20-for-20 in its last six games. ... Jets RW Chris Thorburn suffered a lower-body injury after blocking a shot in the second period. He did not return for the third.
