Coyotes 2, Blackhawks 0: Mike Smith turned aside all 30 shots he faced for his 26th career shutout and defenseman Keith Yandle collected a power-play goal and an assist as Phoenix snapped a five-game home winless streak against Chicago.

Radim Vrbata scored during a 5-on-3 advantage and Antoine Vermette notched an assist to extend his career-best point streak to nine games. Mike Ribeiro and Mikkel Boedker each set up a goal for the Coyotes, who completed their five-game homestand with a 3-2-0 mark.

Patrick Kane ventured to Buffalo to attend his grandfather's funeral and did not play for the Blackhawks, who fell to 3-1-2 on their seven-game road trip.

Despite being knocked down by Brandon Saad late in the second period, Smith wasn't rattled en route to securing his second shutout of the season. The 31-year-old denied 14 shots in the session and handed Chicago its first blanking since a 4-0 decision by Los Angeles on Feb. 25, 2012.

Phoenix made the most of its power-play opportunities as Yandle unleashed a blast from the point that sailed past Corey Crawford (24 saves) 69 seconds into the contest to draw first blood. With Saad and defenseman Michal Rozsival serving minor penalties, Vrbata doubled the advantage with 1:31 left in the second period, faking his initial shot before letting one fly from the slot that sailed between the pads of Crawford.
