Oilers 2, Rangers 1: Nail Yakupov scored with 98 seconds left in the third period to snap a tie as visiting Edmonton halted New York's season-high four-game winning streak.

Ryan Smyth added a goal and Taylor Hall collected his 200th career point with an assist on Yakupov's game-winner as the Oilers improved to 5-1-0 in their last six games. Ben Scrivens turned aside 35 shots to win for the third time in four starts.

Derick Brassard scored the lone tally for the Rangers, who have allowed only five goals in their last four contests. Cam Talbot made 29 saves in losing his second straight start.

The Oilers capitalized on a turnover to open the scoring as David Perron corralled a loose puck and unleashed a shot that caromed off the shoulder of Talbot and landed in the crease, leaving Smyth with a tap-in at 2:56 of the first period. New York pulled even 22 seconds into the middle session, when Mats Zuccarello made a crossing pass to Brassard for a one-timer from the right faceoff circle.

Both goaltenders came up with big third-period saves to preserve the deadlock, with Talbot denying Matt Hendricks with 8 1/2 minutes to play and Scrivens stopping Carl Hagelin from in close one minute later. Yakupov, elevated to the No. 1 line in Wednesday's practice, settled it with a blast from the high slot with the clock winding down.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Brassard has recorded three goals and four assists during a five-game point streak - a run matched by Zuccarello with a pair of tallies and five assists. ... Smyth netted his 384th goal for the Oilers, who had a potential go-ahead tally waved off midway through the second period when the play was ruled to have been whistled dead before the puck crossed the goal line on a shot by RW Jordan Eberle. ... It was the 6,000th regular-season game in franchise history for New York, which became the fifth Original Six team to reach that milestone.
