Stars 3, Coyotes 1: Antoine Roussel snapped a tie - and his 19-game goal-scoring drought - early in the third period as visiting Dallas improved to 5-1-1 in its last seven contests.

Ryan Garbutt recorded an empty-net goal and an assist while Shawn Horcoff converted a power-play opportunity for the Stars, who look to complete a perfect three-game road trip Wednesday at San Jose. Kari Lehtonen turned aside 27 shots.

Antoine Vermette netted the lone tally for the Coyotes, who are 2-2-0 on their five-game homestand. Mike Smith finished with 37 saves as Phoenix lost for the 16th time in 24 contests (8-11-5).

After a scoreless first period, Phoenix took advantage of a turnover and a bad line change to get on the board. Vermette pounced on Stars captain Jamie Benn's miscue in the neutral zone and slid a backhander between Lehtonen's pads on a breakaway at 9:18 for his ninth goal in 10 games.

Horcoff forged a tie with 7:28 remaining, accepting a feed from along the left-wing boards by Tyler Seguin and beating Smith with a backhander from the doorstep for his second goal in 15 games. Roussel put Dallas ahead 3:25 into the third as he wristed a shot from the top of the slot that glanced off the goaltender's shoulder and into the net.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Vermette stretched his point streak to eight games with his goal. He has recorded eight tallies and three assists in that span. ... Seguin's assist extended his point streak to six games. The 22-year-old has collected three goals and seven assists during the run. ...
