Calgary opened the scoring midway through the first period as TJ Galiardi made a backhand pass from below the right faceoff circle to Monahan, who buried it from the doorstep for his team-leading 14th goal. Bouma made it 2-0 at 8:48 of the second by converting a short breakaway from the left circle, but Vermette beat Ramo with a one-timer from above the slot less than four minutes later to halve the deficit.

Stajan drilled a shot from the top of the slot past Smith with 3:59 remaining in the session to restore the Flames' two-goal advantage. Doan beat Ramo with a wrist shot from the left circle at 6:50 of the third, but the Coyotes were unable to get the equalizer.
