Islanders 4, Flyers 3 (SO): Kyle Okposo scored late in the third period before netting the decisive tally in the fourth round of the shootout as host New York salvaged the finale of the home-and-home - and regular-season - series against Philadelphia.

Matt Read scored twice in regulation and extended the bonus format by beating Anders Nilsson (26 saves) between the pads in the third round. Okposo, who also had an assist, backhanded the puck over the extended right pad of Ray Emery (40 saves) before Sean Couturier was denied by Nilsson to end the contest.

Captain John Tavares scored a power-play goal for his team-leading 23rd tally and Okposo forged a 3-3 tie with 2:58 remaining by tapping home Frans Nielsen's diagonal pass at the left post. Brock Nelson also tallied for the Islanders, who improved to 4-11-3 against Metropolitan Division rivals.

Wayne Simmonds recorded his 12th goal in 17 contests and Scott Hartnell notched an assist to extend his point streak to four games for the Flyers, who suffered just their seventh setback in their last 40 meetings with New York (33-4-3).

Read has dominated New York to the tune of six of his 13 goals this season and 10 in 14 career contests. The 27-year-old opened the scoring at 1:26 of the second period by elevating a backhander over the shoulder of Nilsson for a short-handed goal before giving his team a 3-1 lead late in the session by squeezing a shot inside the left post.

Tavares has scored 10 goals and added 11 assists over his last 13 contests. ...
