Third-period goals by Zack Smith and Clarke MacArthur helped Ottawa extend its rare home winning streak to four games.

Mika Zibanejad scored and set up Milan Michalek while linemate Cory Conacher added two assists in the first period for the Senators, who improved to 11-10-4 at Canadian Tire Centre. Craig Anderson made 32 saves.

Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien, Evander Kane and Olli Jokinen tallied for Winnipeg, which fell to 11-5-1 against Eastern Conference opponents and saw its three-game winning streak come to an end. Al Montoya stopped 25 shots in his third straight start.

Smith redirected a quick point shot by defenseman Marc Methot off a faceoff 6:42 into the third period to give Ottawa a 3-2 lead. Anderson made a glove save on a chance in the slot by Mark Scheifele 1:13 later to preserve the slim advantage and MacArthur put a forehand deke over Montoya’s right pad after Bobby Ryan forced a turnover on the forecheck with 8:31 remaining in the game.

Zibanejad found a rebound behind Montoya to open the scoring 13:34 into the first period but Byfuglien’s point shot deflected in off Senators defenseman Joe Corvo’s stick 2:03 later. Michalek regained Ottawa’s lead with 46.8 seconds remaining in the period, snapping home a loose puck from the slot off a shot by Zibanejad.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kane fired a rebound from the side of the net off Anderson and in to tie the game 1:32 into the second. Jokinen one-timed a centering pass from Byfuglien with 5:29 remaining in the third period to make it a one-goal game. … Winnipeg rookie D Jacob Trouba assisted on Kane’s goal to extend his point streak to four games. … Ottawa is 6-2-0 against the Jets since the team moved to Winnipeg from Atlanta.
