Avalanche 4, Oilers 2: Ryan O'Reilly and Maxime Talbot scored 3:28 apart late in the second period to erase a deficit and help host Colorado avenge an embarrassing loss.

Matt Duchene recorded a goal and two assists while defenseman Tyson Barrie scored on the power play for the Avalanche, who suffered an 8-2 beating in Edmonton on Dec. 5. Semyon Varlamov stopped 27 shots as Colorado defeated the Oilers for just the second time in seven tries since the start of last season.

Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins each recorded a goal and an assist for Edmonton, which has lost five in a row. Devan Dubnyk made 35 saves as the Oilers failed to earn a point on their four-game road trip.

Hall opened the scoring with 5:10 remaining in the first period with a shot from the right faceoff circle, but Barrie forged a tie 1:07 into the second with a one-timer from the top of the right circle during a power play. Edmonton moved back ahead as Hall knocked Colorado defenseman Erik Johnson off the puck behind the net and made a cross-crease pass to Nugent-Hopkins, who beat Varlamov from the left side with 7:50 left in the session.

The Avalanche knotted it less than three minutes later, when rookie Nathan MacKinnon faked a one-timer from the right circle and dished the puck to O'Reilly alone in front for his 11th goal. Talbot gave Colorado its first lead while short-handed with 92 seconds remaining in the period, receiving a pass from Marc-Andre Cliche during a 2-on-1 rush and sliding the puck between Dubnyk's pads. Duchene sealed the win with an empty-netter in the final seconds of the third.
