Avalanche 4, Coyotes 3 (OT): Ryan O'Reilly scored on the power play at 4:18 of overtime as Colorado handed Phoenix its second home loss of the season.

Defenseman Andre Benoit had a goal and two assists, John Mitchell also tallied and Cody McLeod delivered the tying goal with 3:14 left in regulation as the Avalanche dropped the Coyotes to 9-0-2 at home. Semyon Varlamov made 41 saves before O'Reilly buried a feed from PA Parenteau from the right circle for the game-winner.

Martin Hanzal and Antoine Vermette scored third-period goals as Phoenix erased a two-goal deficit to take the lead. Defenseman Michael Stone also scored and Mike Smith turned aside 26 shots for the Coyotes, who fell to 8-1-2 in their last 11 games.

Mitchell found a rebound in the slot and sent a wrister past Smith in the opening minute of the second period. Benoit doubled the lead just over 15 minutes later when his wrist shot from the left point hit the post, banked off the back of Smith and deflected into the net. Varlamov let the Coyotes back in the game 80 seconds later, getting beat by Stone's slap shot from the neutral zone.

After an apparent tying goal by defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson was waved off, Phoenix got the equalizer when Varlamov couldn't swat away a trickling puck in the crease and Hanzal knocked it home on his third swipe with 9:20 to play. Vermette delivered the go-ahead tally on the power play at 14:06 but McLeod tied it just over 2 1/2 minutes later, swiping a backhander in traffic past Smith for his second goal in as many games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Stone's goal was his seventh of the season, tying Ottawa's Erik Karlsson for the league lead among defensemen. ... Benoit headed to the locker room early in the second period to get stitched up after taking a puck off the chin but returned later in the period to notch his first goal of the season. ... Coyotes captain Shane Doan extended his point streak to seven games with an assist on Vermette's tally.
