Devils 4, Rangers 0: Cory Schneider made his first home start a memorable one, turning aside all 22 shots he faced for his 10th career shutout as New Jersey recorded its first victory of the season.

Andrei Loktionov and Adam Henrique scored in the first period while Michael Ryder and Dainius Zubrus tallied in the second for the Devils, who netted just 13 goals in their previous seven games. Future Hall-of-Famer Jaromir Jagr and defenseman Marek Zidlicky each notched a pair of assists as New Jersey ended the franchise's longest winless streak to begin a season since a nine-game stretch as the expansion Kansas City Scouts in 1974-75.

A draft-day acquisition, Schneider limped to an 0-2-1 mark in his first three games before handcuffing a Rangers team that was playing its first contest without captain Ryan Callahan (broken thumb).

Loktionov replaced Damien Brunner (upper-body soreness) in the lineup and paid immediate dividends by depositing the rebound of defenseman Anton Volchenkov's point shot between the pads of Henrik Lundqvist (15 saves) at 7:22 of the first period. Henrique doubled the advantage just over five minutes later, accepting Jagr's lead pass before unleashing a blast from the left faceoff dot that sailed over the Swedish netminder's left shoulder.

Ryder scored from the high slot six minutes into the second session and Zubrus cleaned up a juicy rebound 8 1/2 minutes later as the Devils seized a commanding 4-0 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: New York LW Taylor Pyatt nearly scored early in the second period, as his initial shot clipped the near post before his rebound sailed just wide of the net. ... New Jersey captain Bryce Salvador exited the contest late in the first period after he was sent into the boards by New York RW Benoit Pouliot. He returned midway through the second and assisted on Zubrus' tally. ... Devils C Rostislav Olesz notched an assist while playing in place of veteran LW Patrik Elias, who was sidelined with the flu.
