Maple Leafs 2, Bruins 1: James Reimer made 43 saves as visiting Toronto stayed alive to force Game 6 in its Eastern Conference first-round series with Boston.

Tyler Bozak scored a short-handed goal and Clarke MacArthur added the eventual winner 1:58 into the third period for the fifth-seeded Maple Leafs, who cut the series deficit to 3-2 and will host their Original Six rival on Sunday. Reimer stopped 35 of 36 shots over the final two periods to preserve the victory.

Captain Zdeno Chara scored his first goal of the postseason for the fourth-seeded Bruins, who fell to 9-9 all-time in Game 5 elimination opportunities. Tuukka Rask finished with 31 saves.

Midway through the second period, Boston center Patrice Bergeron skated out from behind the net to receive a pass on the doorstep, but Reimer stretched to stop his shot with his right skate. Shortly after, Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference bobbled a pass at Toronto’s blue line on a power play and Bozak skated in alone before firing a shot under Rask’s right arm for his first career playoff tally.

MacArthur intercepted an errant pass in the neutral zone and drove to the net, sliding a backhand deke around Rask for his second goal in as many games since being a healthy scratch. David Krejci fed Chara in the high slot and the towering defenseman fired a wrist shot over Reimer’s blocker with 8:48 remaining in the game.
