Stars 2, Sharks 1: Eric Nystrom and rookie Alex Chiasson scored first-period goals and host Dallas held on to extend its winning streak to five games.

Richard Bachman turned aside 31 shots for the Stars, who climbed into the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Dallas has won all three meetings between the Pacific Division rivals, with the final matchup taking place on April 23 in San Jose.

Brent Burns scored and Antti Niemi made 17 saves for the Sharks, who lost in regulation for just the second time in 11 games (8-2-1) and fell three points behind Los Angeles for fourth place and home-ice advantage in the first round of the postseason. The Kings posted a 2-1 win over Anaheim on Saturday.

Nystrom gave Dallas a 1-0 lead just 1:57 into the contest, firing a shot inside the right post from the left faceoff circle during a 2-on-1 rush. Chiasson doubled the advantage during a power play at the seven-minute mark as he tipped Ray Whitney's one-timer from the right point past Niemi for his third goal in two days.

Chiasson scored twice in the Stars' 5-2 victory in Nashville on Friday. The 22-year-old has netted six goals in five games after going scoreless in his NHL debut on April 3 at Anaheim.

Burns halved the deficit during a man advantage at 5:56 of the third period, when he buried a rebound on the doorstep. But the Sharks were unable to get the equalizer despite outshooting Dallas 13-5 over the final 20 minutes.
