Flames 3, Coyotes 2 (OT): Defenseman Mark Giordano scored at 4:36 of overtime as host Calgary stalled Phoenix's push for the playoffs.

After Coyotes blue-liner Keith Yandle forged a tie with a one-timer from the right faceoff circle with 5:04 remaining in the third period, Giordano unleashed a shot from above the slot that beat a screened Mike Smith. Jiri Hudler and Lee Stempniak scored in regulation, Giordano added an assist and Joey MacDonald made 29 saves for the Flames, who won for just the second time in eight games.

Antoine Vermette tallied and Smith stopped 22 shots for Phoenix, which - along with Dallas and Columbus - trails Detroit by two points for the eighth and final playoff berth in the Western Conference. The Coyotes have won only two of their last 11 road contests.

The Coyotes got on the board just 89 seconds into the game as Vermette backhanded his own rebound past MacDonald from the doorstep. Hudler leveled the contest with 56 seconds remaining in the first period as video review determined there was no kicking motion when he redirected a pass by Mikael Backlund between Smith's pads with his skate.

Stempniak put the Flames in front during a power play, poking a loose puck in the crease over the goal line with 68 seconds left in the second period after defenseman T.J. Brodie's blast from the left circle sneaked past Smith.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Calgary LW Alex Tanguay left the game in the second period with a left knee injury and did not return. ... Flames D Dennis Wideman's assist on Hudler's goal was the 200th of his career. ... Stempniak's goal ended his 14-game drought. ... Calgary has earned at least one point in six of its last seven meetings (4-1-2) with Phoenix.
