Antoine Vermette also scored and Mike Smith made 29 saves for the Coyotes, who climbed within one point of idle Detroit for eighth place in the Western Conference.

Rookie Nail Yakupov tallied and Devan Dubnyk stopped 29 shots for the Oilers, who lost their fourth straight and remained four points behind the Red Wings.

After a scoreless first period, Gordon got Phoenix on the board 37 seconds into the middle session. From the left corner, Gordon fired the puck into the crease, where it caromed off Dubnyk and into the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Dubnyk's nightmare period continued at the nine-minute mark, when his clear attempt went right to Vermette, who fired the puck into the open net from the right faceoff circle for a 2-0 lead. Yakupov halved the deficit at 7:49 of the third, but Moss' pass attempt in the final seconds went off the stick of Edmonton defenseman Ryan Whitney and past Dubnyk, clinching the win.
