Bruins 1, Devils 0: Jaromir Jagr scored in his debut with his new team and Tuukka Rask turned aside 40 shots for his 14th career shutout as host Boston defeated New Jersey for the 10th time in 11 outings.

Brad Marchand and captain Zdeno Chara notched assists for the Bruins, who won their third straight overall to remain one point behind Montreal in the Northeast Division. The Canadiens defeated the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.

Martin Brodeur made 25 saves en route to dropping his eighth straight decision to Boston. The Devils, who fell to 0-2-3 in their last five games, dropped into ninth place as the New York Islanders earned a point in a shootout loss to Washington on Thursday.

After being outshot 17-6 in the first period, Boston benefited from a fortunate bounce at 1:20 of the second to give Rask all the support he needed. From the left faceoff circle, Marchand's centering feed caromed off Jagr's left skate as he drove to the net and sailed between the pads of Brodeur for his 680th career goal.

Returning after a two-game break, Rask made the modest offense stand up to register his third shutout in 2013. The 26-year-old Finn highlighted his stellar performance by denying David Clarkson's backhander with his right pad in the first period.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jagr's 15 goals this season are more than any other member of the Bruins. The five-time Art Ross Trophy winner recorded a team-high five shots on goal. ... The Devils were shut out for the first time in 2013. ... Boston D Wade Redden did not play, one day after being acquired from St. Louis for a conditional draft pick.
