Capitals 3, Jets 0: Braden Holtby made 35 saves for his third shutout of the season and sixth career as Washington earned a rare road win.

Holtby, who blanked Florida on Feb. 9 and Carolina last Tuesday, stopped 15 shots in the first period, four in the second and 16 in the third in another stellar performance against a Southeast Division opponent. Tampa Bay is the only divisional foe that Holtby hasn’t blanked this season.

Mike Ribeiro had a goal and an assist to raise his team-leading point total to 24 on the season and Troy Brouwer scored his club-best ninth goal of the campaign. Matt Hendricks also scored for the Capitals, who improved to 3-6-1 on the road this season.

Hendricks opened the scoring midway through the second period after Blake Wheeler blocked a point shot from defenseman John Erskine and fell to the ice in visible pain, leaving Winnipeg short-handed on the play.

Brouwer extended the lead 3:24 into the third when his shot off a faceoff hit Chris Thorburn’s leg and floated over Ondrej Pavelec, who finished with 18 saves. Ribeiro put home a rebound from captain Alex Ovechkin’s scoring chance 52 seconds later to complete the scoring.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The game marked the 20th anniversary of then-Winnipeg star Teemu Selanne breaking Mike Bossy’s rookie goal-scoring record. Selanne scored 76 goals as a rookie for the Jets and passed Bossy’s mark of 53 on March 2, 1993. … Aaron Volpatti, who was claimed by the Capitals off waivers from Vancouver, fought Anthony Peluso late in the opening period of his first game with Washington. Volpatti had four fights with the Canucks this season. Peluso suffered an upper-body injury in the fight and did not return. … Washington's Wojtek Wolski was a healthy scratch after going 10 games without a point. Wolski has two goals and four points this season.
