Jets 4, Hurricanes 3: Blake Wheeler scored his second goal of the game with 4:54 remaining in the third period to snap a tie and captain Andrew Ladd added a tally and two assists as visiting Winnipeg held off Carolina.

Wheeler finished off a wild stretch of three goals in 63 seconds when he took advantage of Hurricanes defenseman Joe Corvo falling down while reaching for Ladd’s lob pass and found himself alone for a wrist shot and his second goal of the night. Evander Kane added a goal and Ondrej Pavelec made 27 saves for the Jets, who have won back-to-back games.

Jiri Tlusty tallied twice and Jordan Staal scored his third goal as Carolina dropped its second straight game.

Staal won a draw in his own zone with just under six minutes left in a tie game but pushed the puck back toward the net, where Cam Ward (19 saves) swiped at it but could not gain control. Ladd took advantage and pushed it into the vacant net to give the Jets a 3-2 lead.

Tlusty needed only 47 seconds to tie it up again. Winnipeg failed to clear the puck and Carolina captain Eric Staal gained possession along the boards before sending it to a streaking Tlusty, who put it between Pavelec’s pads for his second equalizer of the contest.
