Oilers 6, Avalanche 4: Jordan Eberle forged a tie with a power-play goal midway through the third period and Magnus Paajarvi snapped it with 1:34 remaining as host Edmonton scored five unanswered goals en route to just its second win in eight games.

Eberle, who added an empty-net goal and an assist, received a pass down low from Sam Gagner and tucked the puck inside the left post at 8:58 to knot the contest at 4-4. With overtime looming, Ryan Smyth made a one-handed pass across the top of the crease to Paajarvi, who buried the puck for the go-ahead tally.

Ales Hemsky scored twice, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins added his first goal of the season and an assist and Taylor Hall set up three tallies. Gagner and Smyth each had two assists while Nikolai Khabibulin made 16 saves in relief of Devan Dubnyk for the Oilers, who registered a franchise-record 56 shots on goal.

Matt Duchene and Jamie McGinn had a goal and two assists apiece, John Mitchell netted a tally and set up another and Semyon Varlamov stopped 50 shots for the Avalanche, who have yielded 10 goals in two losses to the Oilers this season.

Colorado controlled the first period despite being outshot 23-12 as McLeod scored 82 seconds into the game while Duchene and McGinn tallied 24 seconds apart late in the session. Hemsky converted a power-play chance with four seconds remaining and, after Mitchell restored the three-goal lead at 6:24 of the second, Nugent-Hopkins and Hemsky scored in a 59-second span later in the period to get Edmonton within one.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Oilers have scored three goals or less in 12 of their 14 games this season - or every contest not played against Colorado. ... Nugent-Hopkins' goal, which came on a one-timer from the left hash marks, ended his 23-game drought. The 19-year-old had not tallied since March 16 against Calgary. ...
