Senators 2, Sabres 0: Craig Anderson turned aside 42 shots for his second shutout of the season to lift Ottawa to its second home win over Buffalo in eight days.

Defenseman Erik Karlsson and Erik Condra scored less than two minutes apart in the second period to give the Senators (7-4-2) their fifth win in the last six meetings with the Sabres.

Anderson, who came into the game with a league-best 1.49 goals-against average, faced a season-high shot total in registering his 21st career shutout while improving to 7-3-1 lifetime against Buffalo.

Karlsson gave Anderson the only goal he needed when he blasted a slap shot past Ryan Miller (29 saves) at 15:20 of the second period with Buffalo on the power play. It was the Norris Trophy winner's first career short-handed goal and his team-high sixth tally.

Condra doubled the lead 1:54 later as the Senators poured 17 shots on Miller in the period and came away with only their second win in six games after scoring only seven goals in the previous five contests.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Sabres F Thomas Vanek, who entered the night leading the league in goals and assists, was held off the scoresheet for only the third time this season - with two of the games coming against Ottawa. ... Karlsson had a game-high nine shots on goal for the Senators, who were 0-for-8 on the power play. ... Condra's goal was his first in nine games and ended a five-game point drought.
