Hurricanes 3, Senators 2 (OT): Defenseman Jay Harrison scored 2:19 into overtime and Cam Ward made 45 saves as visiting Carolina defeated Ottawa for the second time this season.

Harrison jammed home a rebound in overtime while Chad LaRose and Alexander Semin scored in regulation for the Hurricanes, who skated to a 1-0 victory over the Senators in Carolina last Friday. The Hurricanes have won five of their last seven games.

Defenseman Erik Karlsson and captain Daniel Alfredsson replied for Ottawa, which has lost three of its last four. Craig Anderson stopped 23 shots but allowed more than two goals for this first time in nine starts.

Karlsson tapped in a loose puck to open the scoring late in the first period. LaRose tied the game with seven minutes remaining in the second, beating Anderson with a wrist shot from the right hashmarks.

Alfredsson regained the lead for Ottawa late in the period when his shot from a sharp angle eluded Ward, who stopped all 12 shots in the third and five in overtime. Semin scored on a one-timer from the slot on the power play with 7:34 remaining in the third period.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Semin has 21 points in 24 career games against Ottawa. … Hurricanes captain Eric Staal assisted on Semin’s goal and has 11 points as part of a seven-game streak. … The Senators finished 0-for-3 on the power play. They are 0-1-2 when they fail to score with the man advantage.
