SHARKS 3, BLUES 2 (2OT): Martin Havlat scored his second goal of the game 3:34 into the second overtime as visiting San Jose captured the opener of their Western Conference quarterfinal series.

Andrew Desjardins also tallied, Ryane Clowe and defenseman Dan Boyle each notched two assists and Antti Niemi made 40 saves for the Sharks, who lost all four regular-season meetings with the Blues.

Clowe made a backhand pass from the outer edge of the left faceoff circle that bounced to Havlat, whose one-timer from the top of the circle beat Jaroslav Halak to the stick side for the winner. Havlat scored seven goals this campaign while limited to just 39 games due to a torn hamstring.

After a scoreless first period, San Jose converted a power-play opportunity just over six minutes into the second for its first goal at Scottrade Center this season.

With Blues forward David Perron serving a slashing penalty, Boyle unleashed a wrist shot from the top of the slot that Havlat deflected past Halak for his 20th goal in 68 career playoff games. The Sharks were shut out in each of their two regular-season visits to St. Louis.

Patrik Berglund forged a tie 54 seconds into the third when he tipped defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk's shot from the blue line by Niemi for his first tally in five career postseason contests.

The 23-year-old Swede put the Blues ahead during a man advantage at 7:28 as he took a pass from Andy McDonald during a 4-on-2 rush, avoided a sliding Joe Pavelski and fired the puck past Niemi.

The Sharks pulled even with 5:16 remaining when Tommy Wingels made a backhand pass from below the left faceoff circle to Desjardins, who beat Halak from in front.

Halak stopped 31 shots for the Blues, who fell to 20-10 in overtime playoff games at home.
