Captain Shane Doan scored a power-play goal 3:05 into overtime as the Phoenix Coyotes recorded their season-high fourth straight victory with a 2-1 home triumph over the Calgary Flames on Thursday.

Taylor Pyatt scored for the first time in nearly a month and Mike Smith turned aside 22 shots for Phoenix, which moved past Dallas and Minnesota for sole possession of eighth place in the Western Conference standings.

With Mikael Backlund serving a tripping penalty late in overtime, Doan made the Flames pay by blasting a one-timer from the left faceoff circle past Leland Irving for his 16th goal of the season. Prior to the goal, Calgary defenseman Blair Jones was hit by a shot in front and was essentially out of the play.

After netting his seventh career hat trick on Wednesday, Olli Jokinen continued his hot hand by leveling the contest at 1-1 just 4:01 into the third period.

The veteran Finn capped a brilliant set up by tipping defenseman Mark Giordano's shot past Smith. The tally was Jokinen's 17th of the season and fifth in four games.

With Miikka Kiprusoff collecting his 300th NHL victory on Wednesday, Irving played well in his stead. He stopped 34 shots, but Calgary fell to Phoenix for the fifth straight time.

Pyatt opened the scoring at 7:43 of the first period. After defenseman Rostislav Klesla blocked T.J. Brodie's attempt, the Coyotes turned up ice and Pyatt capped the rush by wristing a shot past Irving for his seventh goal of the season and first since Jan. 12.
