David Desharnais collected two goals and an assist and Erik Cole also had a three-point night as the Montreal Canadiens emphatically ended the Detroit Red Wings' seven-game winning streak with a 7-2 drubbing on Wednesday at the Bell Centre.

Rene Bourque and Max Pacioretty recorded a goal and an assist, Tomas Plekanec also tallied and defenseman Alexei Emelin secured his first career NHL goal. Montreal, which scored six times in a 10-shot span, improved to 3-1-2 in its last six games and pulled to within eight points of eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

Jiri Hudler ended All-Star Carey Price's bid for his 15th career shutout by scoring just 21 seconds into the third period. Hudler also converted from the doorstep nearly six minutes later, but Detroit's deficit was too large to overcome on this night.

Although the NHL-leading Red Wings are currently riding an impressive 17-game home winning streak, they fell for the 14th time in 27 games away from Joe Louis Arena.

After Bourque opened the scoring with his second tally in as many contests, Emelin doubled the advantage 5:48 later in the first period after blasting a shot from the point. Desharnais and Plekanec scored in a 1:35 span to give Montreal a 4-0 lead and chase All-Star netminder Jimmy Howard.

The Canadiens kept up their assault on Ty Conklin, who yielded two quick goals to start the second period. Pacioretty netted his 17th tally of the season and Desharnais collected his 14th point in 12 games with a power-play marker from a sharp angle nearly 2 1/2 minutes later.
