Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell scored 35 seconds apart as the Boston Bruins used a four-goal third period to upend the host New Jersey Devils 4-1 on Thursday night.

The Devils came into the night 15-1-1 when leading after two periods but couldn't fend off the relentless Bruins, who entered just 3-8-1 when behind after 40 minutes.

With New Jersey clinging to a 1-0 lead, Andrew Ference finally put the visitors on the board 3:01 into the third. The veteran forward blasted a shot that glanced off the post and into the net behind Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur.

Boston jumped ahead at 7:10, with Horton finishing off a three-way passing play for his eighth goal in the last nine games. Campbell made it a two-goal advantage, banging home a rebound of a Shawn Thornton shot.

Chris Kelly added an empty-netter for the Bruins, who went 2-2-0 on their four-game road trip. They now head home for a pivotal showdown with the New York Rangers on Saturday.

Petr Sykora put the Devils ahead with just 1:31 remaining in the opening period. Dainius Zubrus won a battle for the puck behind the Boston net and centered it to Sykora, whose quick shot from the slot eluded Boston netminder Tim Thomas.

Patrik Elias added an assist on the Sykora goal to extend his points streak to seven games.
