Alex Edler had his second consecutive three-point effort and Roberto Luongo turned aside 28 shots as the Vancouver Canucks blitzed the host Calgary Flames 5-1 Tuesday night.

Luongo came in having allowed seven goals on his last 46 shots but was nearly perfect in this one, turning back a handful of Calgary scoring chances. His only blemish came on an Alex Tanguay goal with 32 seconds remaining in regulation and the game already well in hand.

Chris Higgins opened the scoring 7:57 into the game, breaking in alone and flipping a backhand over a prone Miikka Kiprusoff for his team-high sixth of the season. Alex Burrows doubled the advantage in the waning moments of a Vancouver power play, sweeping the puck into a wide-open net while laying on his back in the crease.

Daniel Sedin capped the blowout period with 19 seconds remaining, finishing off a three-way passing play with a snap shot over a fallen Kiprusoff with Vancouver on a power play.

Cody Hodgson and Edler added second-period goals for the Canucks, and a 5-0 advantage through 40 minutes was enough to chase Kiprusoff from the net in favor of Henrik Karlsson.

Edler finished with a goal and two helpers, giving him six points (three goals, three assists) in his last two games.
